Everyday we see tons of great videos that look like someone is moving really fast then turning other way and then goes even faster, and at the same time the background is just flowing around and sometimes your eyes cannot even catch what’s going on. Then your brain tells you that this is definitely something really hard to do, but actually it’s easier than you think.
Lemme show you how it’s done.
Today I will show you how to shoot a hyperlapse but let’s start with the time-lapse. It’s just a sequence of pictures glued together that make a movie. Kind of… I know that it isn’t a proper definition but you get the point. Now the hyper lapse is when you move during your time-lapse, easy right?
What gear do you need to shoot a hyper lapse?
You will need a pair of hands, pair of legs and additionally a tripod or a gimbal. Finally you will need a camera.
Now let’s get to work. Pick your location, then pick an object, position the object on the specific spot on your screen. Take a photo, take a step, take another photo, another step, photo, step and so on… Just remember that you need to keep your focus object in the same spot on the screen.
Now it’s time for some math. 1 second of a video is made of 24 frames, it means that you will need to shoot 24 pictures to get 1 second of a video. So if you want a 5 second hyper lapse you will need 24 frames multiplied by 5 and it equals 120, so you have to shoot 120 photos.
When you’re done with your shots you drag them into your computer, add some color, add some stabilization and maybe some motion blur so that it gives you an illusion of a really fast movement and boom! Now you know how to do a hyper lapse, but can you do the hyper lapse? Remember that watching a video is not enough and you have to try it yourself to really learn something new. You need to give it a try!
